Buy Garmin alpha 10 Handheld: Track up to 20 dogs
The Garmin Alpha 10 device can follow the activity of up to 20 dogs in the field at a range of up to 9 miles. I put a pre-release model through its paces with a German Shorthaired Pointer.
Dog tracking collars are not a new concept. Garmin offers a variety of modern dog tracking and training devices.
These GPS tracking gadgets have been adopted by hunters who run dogs over enormous distances but require the capacity to monitor each dog’s behavior. They are powerful instruments in the field.
Garmin added a new tool to the toolbox today with the Garmin Alpha 10. And, while the Alpha10 is the newest, it isn’t the most powerful hammer in the box.
Instead, the Garmin Alpha 10 provides hunters (and anybody else who wants to exploit the power of real-time dog tracking) with a versatile, light, effective tracker with pared-down capabilities at a reasonable price ($350 for the handheld; $600-650 for the handheld plus a collar).
No, that is still not a low-cost option. However, it saves hundreds of dollars when compared to devices with more robust onboard GPS mapping.
In short, the Garmin Alpha10 performs the majority of the capabilities of more expensive GPS trackers at a lesser cost. The simple-to-use, precise gadget is an excellent choice for hunters who rely on phone apps for navigation.
Finally, the training collar is useful for hunters who have previously trained their dogs with e-collars.
I took the Alpha10 into some big mountains to scout for elk for the upcoming season. Because the hunt was still a month away, my wife and I took our GSP along to see if we could wrangle up any grouse for practice.
The Alpha10unit was simple to set up at first. The instructions covered everything from charging to pairing and basic use, and most of it was self-explanatory based on the product’s appearance.
I used the Garmin Alpha 10 with the TT15 Mini training collar. It lets you to converse with the dog through tone, vibration, and electric stimulation. Thank goodness, my dog is already trained to understand these, making for a simple transfer.
In my first use, I had the collar worked out in about 10 minutes out of the car. It took a few moments to grasp the menu system and user interface. But once I’d found and navigated through all of the screens, the product became second nature.
I could follow my pup’s range and direction via the device as she weaved a pattern across the woodland and meadows. It shows an arrow pointing to the dog and a distance. This makes pinpointing your dog’s whereabouts a breeze.
Garmin claims you can accomplish this with up to 20 dogs at once.
Other Functions of Garmin Alpha 10 Dog Tracker
I got a good initial impression of the goods. However, because to its pre-production stage, I was unable to test all of the functions.
For example, the Alpha10 will be compatible with smartphones. This allows you to use the Garmin Explore app on your smartphone to track your hunts and even monitor pets or other friends who have Garmin devices.
Solution for Mobile dog devices
Hunters may expand their mapping solutions by pairing the Alpha10 with the Garmin Explore smart device app. When paired, users may stow the Garmin Alpha 10 portable in their pack and use a compatible smartphone or tablet to observe and track their dogs’ location and track in real-time.
Garmin Explore adds important information such as hunt rewind to relive your greatest hunt moments, strong off-grid navigation, customisable tracking lines, and stored hunt collections for simple access when you need it.
Tracking of a companion.
Garmin Alpha 10 owners can view their companion and companion’s dog whereabouts by pairing their unit with a compatible Garmin dog-tracking device, such as the Alpha 200i.
Once connected, the Alpha10operator can make real-time decisions based on information at a glance, rather than waiting for verbal communication from the dog’s handler.
The two-way communication allows the dog handler and Alpha10 users to see each other’s whereabouts while they are not in visual contact for greater awareness. Furthermore, compatible devices can transfer prepared messages between units for quick communication.
Compatibility with the environment.
Individuals can use the built-in dog-tracking app to combine the Alpha10 with optional Garmin devices, such as a compatible Garmin smart watch, such as the Instinct, fnix, or tactix.
The Alpha10 training unit is also compatible with the Garmin DriveTrack system for in-vehicle tracking.
